Washaway Beach

Washaway Beach is a tranquil and expansive beach located in the area of Dobroyd Head. It is known for its natural beauty and lack of commercial facilities, offering visitors a pure and untouched beach experience. The beach is also recognized as an unofficial nude beach, providing an option for those who prefer clothing-optional environments. The beach is accessible via a rocky path, which requires a moderate level of fitness and agility due to its steep and challenging nature. The journey to the beach involves a 6-minute bush walk, followed by a steep climb down to the beach. The path can be found after the Aboriginal Rock Engravings on the map. Visitors are advised to be cautious as the path can be dangerous, particularly for those who are less agile. The beach offers a unique feature in the form of a large cave, which provides shelter from the sun and rain. However, it is important to note that there are no facilities such as toilets, change rooms, or lifeguard services at the beach. Visitors are encouraged to take all their rubbish with them to preserve the natural beauty of the beach and protect sea life. Washaway Beach is best visited before 2pm to enjoy the sun, and it takes approximately 10-15 minutes to walk to the beach from the parking area. The beach offers panoramic views reaching across from Manly to Balmoral. However, the beach's name is a reminder of its susceptibility to being washed away during stormy weather, with waves crashing on the cliffs, making it less suitable for a traditional beach experience during such times.
