Weissensee

Weissensee, also known as Strandbad Weissensee, is a beach and bathing lake located in Berlin, Germany, approximately 15 minutes away from Alexanderplatz. It is one of the highest situated lakes in the Carinthia region, known for its natural beauty and unique characteristics.

Amenities include a sandy beach, beach loungers, a separate non-swimmer area, facilities for people with disabilities, and a playground with climbing equipment. There is also the option to rent swimming equipment. For dining and drinking, there are restaurants and bars available. The beach also offers facilities for hosting events, with options for both small and large gatherings.

In terms of natural characteristics, Weissensee is renowned for its impressive temperatures during the summer months, reaching up to 24-25 degrees Celsius. This makes it a popular spot for swimming and other water sports. In contrast, the winter season sees the lake freeze over completely, providing a picturesque setting for ice-skating. The lake is one of the cleanest in Austria, with the water being potable. Silky white sediments give the lake its name - White Lake. Despite its high elevation of 900 meters, it offers swimming from June to September, especially on the eastern and western shores. Weissensee is about 9 kilometers long and only a hundred meters or two wide, providing a unique bird's eye view experience when traveling down from Naggler Alm.

Weissensee is divided into different areas, with the eastern part being more wild and almost uninhabited, while other areas are home to various amenities. The lake also offers a public bathing spot with facilities available for a fee. Boat trips are another popular activity on the lake. Beyond the summer season, the lake area is also known for its hiking paths, with one of the most popular being the circular path around the lake.
