Playa Alcanada, also known as Aucanada or Platja d'Alcanada, is a tranquil beach located in the northern part of Alcudia Bay in Mallorca. It is a less crowded destination, often visited by tourists seeking a peaceful environment. This beach is known for its unique blend of developed and wild elements, offering a balance between the more commercial Playa de Alcudia and the more rugged Playa de Coll Baix.
One of the defining natural characteristics of Playa Alcanada is its pebble beach, which covers an area of 550 meters by 20 meters. It has a gravel bottom and a steep slope, with waters that are shallow and calm, reaching a depth of only 1.5 meters. This makes it suitable for swimming and leisurely walks. The beach is also known for its ground covered with Posidonia, providing a soft place for visitors to lay their towels.
Adding to its natural beauty, Playa Alcanada features a beautiful island, known as the Illa de Alcanada, and a lighthouse dating back to 1861. During low tide, visitors can walk through water that is about 1 meter deep to reach the island and explore it.
Despite its natural allure, Playa Alcanada is equipped with several amenities for visitor convenience. Although it does not offer sunbed rentals, showers, lifeguards, or public toilets, there is a restaurant/bar available for visitors. There are also supermarkets close by.
Playa Alcanada is accessible by foot, car, or boat, with a parking area available for visitors. The beach can be reached by following the Ma-3460 road towards Alcanada from Alcudia. For those seeking a scenic route, it is recommended to follow the natural trail along the perimeter of the nearby golf course, which offers spectacular views of Alcudia Bay.
While the beach is suitable for families and offers various activities like swimming and golfing, it is important to note that dogs are not allowed, and nudism is not permitted. Playa Alcanada is especially peaceful during the off-peak season, such as the first week of October, when it is less crowded and there is plenty of shade under the trees.
