Arrietara Beach

Arrietara Beach, also known as Playa Arrietara-Atxabiribil, is a popular beach located in Sopelana. It is known for its semi-urban coastline, golden sand, and varying width depending on the tide. The beach stretches to a length of 826 meters and its width ranges from 160 meters during low tide to 25 meters during high tide. This beach is easily accessible either by foot or by car. For those who choose to drive, a parking area accommodating more than 100 vehicles is available. This parking area is monitored for security. The beach can also be reached via interurban bus. Arrietara Beach is a favorite destination for activities such as surfing and swimming, thanks to its relatively clear water and amazing waves. The seafloor descends slowly, making it a perfect place to enjoy the big waves even for small children. Despite its popularity, the beach can get very busy and overcrowded, especially on weekends. The beach provides amenities such as toilets, showers, and trash bins to ensure the convenience of its visitors. Dining is also made possible by the restaurants in the area. However, there are no rental services for beach equipment like hammocks or umbrellas. Neither does it have sports or playground areas, nautical rental, or diving facilities. A surf school is located on the beach, adding to its vibrant atmosphere. For safety, Arrietara Beach is monitored by seven lifeguards. The nearest hospital, Hospital de Cruces, is located 20 kilometers away. Nudism is not permitted on this beach. The beach has undergone various repairs and renovations, including the rehabilitation of the access ramp, repair of the stairs and steps leading to the beach, and repair of the walkway near the access ramp, ensuring a safe beach environment. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a clean environment, although visitors are advised that the area can become littered with waste, particularly along the roads leading to the beach. Despite some minor drawbacks, Arrietara Beach remains a highly recommended destination for beachgoers.
