Chorgota Beach is a picturesque location situated an hour drive from Argostoli. It is known for its appearance in the movie “Capitain Corelli’s Mandolin”. The beach offers a breathtaking view from above, especially in the morning. It is characterized by its crystal clear waters, making it ideal for activities like snorkeling and swimming. The beach is also noted for its calmness, with little waves even during windy conditions.
The beach is not organized and has a natural setting with pebbles and rocks. Due to the presence of pointed rocks, it is recommended to have something soft to place under the beach towel and rock shoes for entering the water. The beach is surrounded by an olive grove that provides shade throughout the day.
Chorgota Beach is small and usually not crowded, providing a sense of privacy to its visitors. It is also a suitable place for camping. However, the beach lacks amenities such as toilets or bars.
Access to the beach can be challenging due to the steep and narrow road leading to it. The last 7km of the road can be particularly difficult to navigate. There is no designated parking area; visitors typically park their cars on the side of the narrow road. Some visitors prefer to park at the top and walk down to the beach. It is suggested to use a 4x4 vehicle for the journey or to approach the last turn in reverse.
