Spiaggia Costa di Carro is a serene, crescent-shaped bay located in the Scicli territory of southeastern Sicily. Approximately 11 kilometers from Scicli and 1 kilometer from Sampieri, this beach is a part of the Costa di Carro Park, which spans a 4-kilometer coastal strip.
The beach is well-known for its untouched, natural environment. Its golden sand is encompassed by cliffs and caves, contributing to its tranquil ambiance. This peacefulness is maintained even during the bustling months of July and August. The beach concludes with a striking cliff that extends along the coast to Cava d'Aliga, providing an ideal spot for diving and snorkeling.
Behind the sand dunes, visitors will find a large, free parking area and a year-round camping site. This site is equipped with a bar and a pizzeria, offering amenities to beach-goers. However, parking can be limited, and visitors may need to park their vehicles along the road and walk to the beach. There are no official entrances to the beach, and visitors often cross over a barrier to access it.
The Costa di Carro Park, established in 2002, is a natural oasis abundant with dwarf palms and agave plants. This park is a perfect destination for hiking enthusiasts and those who enjoy exploring high and rugged cliffs. Notable locations within the park include the "Grotta dei Colombi" (Cave of the Doves), the Spaccazza, an inlet in the cliff leading to a rocky beach, and the "Covo dei Contrabbandieri" (Smugglers' Cove), a formerly clandestine spot for smuggling goods post-World War II.
The beach is also frequented for its snorkeling opportunities along the cliffs, due to its shallow waters. Despite being a popular spot for sunbathing and family outings, the beach is typically not overcrowded, offering visitors ample space to enjoy their day. However, it's worth noting that there are no toilets or showers available on the beach.
To reach Spiaggia Costa di Carro, visitors can follow the signs to Sampieri along the road SP 39 or SP 40 for about 10 kilometers. At the entrance of the camping site "La spiaggetta," turn right towards the parking, with beach access directly in front of the parking area.
