Plage de Cupabia is a picturesque beach located in the commune of Serra-di-Ferro in the region of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. This beach is considered one of the most beautiful in southern Corsica and is known for its stunning natural landscape, including its remarkable Variscan granitoids that can be seen in the cliffs and outcrops on the beach. These granitoids, primarily composed of granodiorites, are believed to be between 358.9 ± 0.4 and 298.9 ± 0.15 million years old. The beach is also home to frequent simple pegmatites, featuring reddish K-feldspar and milky quartz. These unique geological features contribute to the beach's inclusion in the Natura 2000 network, a network of protected nature areas in the European Union.
The beach is divided into two sections by large rocky spurs. The northern part offers tranquility and seclusion, as it can only be reached on foot. In contrast, the southern part of the beach is more family-friendly and tends to be less crowded, providing a peaceful retreat from more congested beaches. The central part of the beach is the largest and most frequented during the summer, while the sides offer smaller, secluded coves perfect for those seeking privacy.
Plage de Cupabia is easily accessible by car via the D155 departmental road, either from the southern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, coming from Coti via the D55, or from Taravo via Pila Canale. The most common access route is through Serra di Ferro and Propriano (D155). Access by sea is also possible, though caution is advised during rough conditions.
Once at the beach, visitors will find a gentle slope making it suitable for swimming. There are also opportunities for snorkeling, scuba diving, and water sports, particularly at the rocky ends of the beach. For those who prefer to stay on land, the beach offers the chance to explore its dunes or enjoy a walk along its shores.
Amenities at Plage de Cupabia include an onsite camping site, which also houses a restaurant and bar. This camping site is conveniently located just a few meters from the beach, offering villa rentals for those who wish to stay overnight. The beach also offers a bar for refreshments. Parking is available at the beach, but spaces can fill up quickly, so early arrival is recommended. From the parking lot, it's a 5 to 10-minute walk to the beach. If the parking lot is full, parking by the road is an option. Despite the amenities, visitors should note that the beach's secluded location means that additional facilities or nearby attractions may be limited.
