Spiaggia Dei Conigli, also known as Rabbit Beach, is a picturesque beach situated on the southern coast of Lampedusa in Sicily, Italy. This beach belongs to the Pelagie Islands and is known for its stunning beauty, characterized by its clear, shallow waters and soft, golden sand. The beach also serves as a nesting ground for turtles, further enhancing its natural allure.
Although part of Italy, Lampedusa is geographically closer to Africa than to Sicily. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Agrigento Province, with Porto Empedocle, the nearest harbor town, located 215 kilometers to the northwest. The Tunisian coast lies approximately 130 kilometers west of Lampedusa. Despite the distance, Lampedusa hosts its own airport, offering domestic flights to various Italian cities, with Palermo Airport being the closest at an hour's flight time. Sea crossings from Porto Empedocle are also an option, but they can be time-consuming.
Upon reaching Lampedusa, visitors can access the beach via a bus from the airport, which takes less than half an hour. Other transportation options include taxis and rental cars or scooters. However, given the small size of the island, these may not be necessary for most visitors.
Once at the beach, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking sea view, reminiscent of a swimming pool. However, due to its popularity and to protect the natural environment, access to the beach is regulated. Entrance is limited and must be booked in advance, managed by Legambiente volunteers. From the designated drop-off point, the beach is reached via an easy descent on foot.
Despite the limited facilities near the beach, there is an eatery located a 15-minute walk from the drop-off point or scooter parking area. Thus, visitors are advised to bring their own provisions for the day. External parking is available for a fee, and it is recommended for visitors to wear shoes for the descent to the beach. While there are no umbrella rentals available, visitors planning to stay for more than a few hours are advised to bring their own. During the peak season, the beach can become crowded, so early booking is suggested to secure a spot.
