Spiaggia della Grotta Verde is a unique natural attraction located in the village of Marina di Andrano, in the Salento region of Italy. This beach, known for its distinctive natural characteristics, is situated in the Regional Park for the Protection of the Eastern Coast of Salento. One of its main attractions is the Grotta Verde, a spectacular sea cave that derives its name from the sunlight filtering through the clear waters, resulting in a magical emerald green glow. The cave is accessible through a semi-submerged entrance, allowing visitors to walk in and bathe in the green glow. This marvelous cave is known for its biodiversity and unique beauty, housing various marine species and adorned with colorful coral algae.
The beach itself is characterized by small sandy stretches alternating with high and rocky cliffs, adorned with caves and coves surrounded by green vegetation. It offers a diverse natural landscape, perfect for exploring by bike or enjoying panoramic walks. The clear and crystalline waters are ideal for diving and snorkeling. The beach is divided into two main areas: Botte and Marina della Torre. Botte is suitable for families and children, with shallow waters and facilities for people with disabilities. On the other hand, Marina della Torre is characterized by rugged rocks and unique features, such as fig trees and fennel.
Despite its popularity, the beach is not overly crowded, particularly towards the end of August, providing a serene and tranquil environment for visitors. The beach offers several amenities, including a kiosk, a patisserie/gelateria, a bar, and a public freshwater tap. There is also a romantic pedestrian promenade with a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea, featuring children's areas, and local establishments where visitors can enjoy local Salento specialties.
The beach is easily accessible, located on the SS358 road between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca. There is a large parking lot nearby, providing ample parking space for visitors. However, visitors should note that setting up a beach umbrella can be challenging due to the rocky terrain. Regular cleaning of the rocks area is also suggested to maintain the cleanliness of the beach.
