Spiaggia della Mezzaluna, a beach with a picturesque crescent shape, is situated in the Salento region of Italy, specifically in the province of Brindisi along the coast of Carovigno. It is highly regarded for its pristine waters, the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape, and the quality of local services, which have earned it the international Blue Flag recognition.
The beach features fine, light-colored sand interspersed with rocks, and the crystal clear, clean sea has a shallow, gently sloping seabed. This makes it an ideal location for families with children and swimmers of all skill levels, although caution is advised near the rocky areas where whirlpools can form. Adjacent to the beach is the Mezzaluna river, which nourishes a lush Mediterranean ecosystem and supports local wildlife. During periods of rain, the river merges with the sea before retreating.
Spiaggia della Mezzaluna offers both a wild, free section of beach and an equipped area with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. The equipped beach becomes a hub of activity in the afternoon, with live music and DJ sets attracting a young crowd. Nearby, visitors can explore an archaeological area featuring fossil dunes and Neolithic-era caves.
The beach is conveniently located near several noteworthy attractions. It is a 10-minute drive from the white city of Ostuni, 20 minutes from the Fasano Safari Zoo, and just over half an hour from the Castellana Caves and the trulli of Alberobello.
Reaching Spiaggia della Mezzaluna involves taking the SS 379 road in the Fasano-Brindisi section and exiting at Torre Santa Sabina. Despite the somewhat challenging access ways, free parking is available, although finding a spot can be difficult during the busy summer season. Visitors can also find a variety of tasty food options at the beach's café.
