Spiaggia di Cittadella is a pristine beach situated within the Vendicari Nature Reserve in Noto, at the southernmost tip of Sicily. This location is not only known for its unspoiled shoreline, but also for its rich historical significance, being situated opposite the archaeological site of Cittadella, a Byzantine era city. Visitors to the beach can explore the ancient necropolis and Trigona, as well as a restored former wine production facility known as Palmento that regularly hosts cultural and naturalistic events.
The beach itself boasts a serene atmosphere, with its shallow, calm, and clear waters providing an idyllic setting for relaxation. However, it's important to note that the beach offers no amenities or services, and access to the beach requires a fee. Despite these factors, it remains a popular destination for beach lovers due to its cleanliness and natural beauty.
In terms of accessibility, Spiaggia di Cittadella can be reached through the entrance of the Vendicari Nature Reserve or by taking one of the roads leading to the sea in the direction of San Lorenzo. Parking is available at the end of a quiet street known as San Lorenzo 8ª Strada, where there is a free parking area that can accommodate both cars and caravans.
While the beach can be quite popular, a portion of it remains free from crowds as it serves as a dedicated nesting area for the Caretta Caretta sea turtles, making it inaccessible to the public. Also, visitors should be aware that the beach closes at 19:30. Beyond the beach, visitors can engage in trail exploration, with paths leading to ancient ruins and observation points where flamingos can be spotted in the nearby swamps.
