Spiaggia di Mascali is a picturesque beach located in North Mascali, near Catania. The beach is known for its unique natural characteristics, including its beautiful view stretching till Giardini-Naxos, Taormina, hills and even as far as Calabria up North. The beach is not a typical sandy beach, but rather, it is adorned with beautiful smaller and bigger stones, including all kinds of marble, making it an interesting alternative to traditional sand beaches. These stones are not only lovely to lie on and play with, but also make the beach ideal for children aged 5 and up who have a bit of swimming experience. The beach is also home to many fish, making it a great spot for nature lovers. The waters at Spiaggia di Mascali are clear and only have smooth waves on the very shore. The beach is not very busy and is often almost empty, with sometimes only two or three locals present. The beach is warm and sunny until approximately 6:30pm. However, visitors should be aware that there are signs indicating that the beach is permanently closed for swimming and fishing, although this does not seem to deter tourists, including numerous Italians, from enjoying the beach. Despite these signs, the beach is generally pleasant and the water is clean and transparent. Visitors are advised to wear shoes for the stones. The beach is relatively clean, but there have been reports of pollution in the sea and garbage in the nearby eucalyptus tree forest. There are lidos operating on either side of the beach, with one appearing to serve the beach from a window in its kiosk. Despite its beauty, the beach can be potentially risky due to the presence of a large sewer or drain pipe in the middle of the beach. Visitors should exercise caution when visiting Spiaggia di Mascali.
