Baia di Torre Uluzzo

Baia di Torre Uluzzo is a picturesque beach located in the Porto Selvaggio reserve, which is part of the Ionian coast of Salento. The bay is small and rocky, with an inlet that receives tides from the sirocco. This natural feature contributes to its unique beauty, but also brings with it debris and plastics that the waters return. Despite this, the bay is known for its clear, blue waters and is considered an ideal spot for snorkelling and diving, thanks to its abundant reefs and sea life, including a significant population of sea urchins.

The beach is not typically crowded, even during the peak summer months. Visitors often arrive early in the morning to enjoy the tranquility of the bay, with only a few groups of people arriving throughout the day. The bay is also known for its spectacular views, particularly at sunset, which can be enjoyed from both above and below the tower.

Access to the bay is somewhat challenging, particularly for those carrying beach gear. The descent is steep and rocky, and visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear. Despite the difficult access, many find the journey worthwhile for the beauty that awaits at the bottom. There are two main routes to the beach: one directly under the tower and another from a road above the bay. Parking is available at nearby locations, such as Fico D'India.

While the bay is a popular spot for photography and exploration, some visitors prefer to swim at the nearby Bay of Portoselvaggio due to the easier access and cleaner waters. Regardless of the chosen activity, visitors to Baia di Torre Uluzzo are urged to respect and care for the natural environment, preserving its beauty for future generations.
