Spiaggia di Vindicio is a popular beach located in the seaside resort town of Formia, in the Lazio region of Italy. It is recognized for its historical background, as Formia was established by the Laconi people, and later occupied by the Romans who renamed it Formiae. Over the years, the beach has seen various redevelopment efforts to enhance its appearance and decrease pollution. It has received a three-star rating for water safety from Arpa, an environmental agency.
The beach is accessible by both car and train. Travelers from the south are advised to head towards Formia and follow directions to Via Vitruvio, which leads directly to the beach. Visitors from the north are advised to enter the city and proceed along Via Vitruvio until they reach the beach. Alternatively, a train to Formia can be taken, followed by a bus ride along the waterfront.
Spiaggia di Vindicio is open to the public every day, all day, and can be accessed free of charge. It is a year-round destination with heavy footfall during the warm season for sunbathing and water sports, particularly windsurfing. Even in autumn and winter, the beach is frequented by windsurfing enthusiasts. Those who prefer not to sunbathe or participate in water activities can explore the historic center of Formia.
The beach is renowned for its medium-sized sandy terrain interspersed with small rocks and excellent quality of crystal-clear waters, making it a favorite spot for divers. Despite the absence of beach resorts, the beach is equipped with amenities like relaxation and sunbathing areas, Wi-Fi, hot showers, and a shop for renting various sports equipment. Refreshment facilities, including bars and restaurants, are also available. The beach also features a small pine park which includes a bar, a children's playground, and a few outdoor gym tools.
During the summer, only a small portion of the beach is freely accessible, while during the winter, the entire beach is open to the public. The beach can get crowded, particularly in the free areas, from June onwards. Despite this, it is considered more personal than other nearby beaches, and it maintains a relaxed atmosphere. The beach's windy conditions make it a popular location for windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and beach volleyball.
