Spiaggia e Piscina Naturale di Marina Serra is a unique beach located in the small village of Marina Serra, within the municipality of Tricase, in the province of Lecce, Puglia, Italy. The beach is situated on the eastern side of Salento, a region bathed by the clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. The natural pool, which is the main feature of the beach, is a crescent-shaped body of water surrounded by tall rocks, which flows into the sea after a few meters.
The natural pool is carved out from the surrounding rocks and filled with clear, colorless and shallow water, making it a perfect spot for families with young children. The seabed of the pool is shallow and the water is so transparent and clean that it reflects the surroundings. The gentle and constant waves provide a pleasurable sensation to the swimmers. The beach also has multiple coves and breathtaking inlets, including the accessible Grotta Matrona, where the play of light and water creates a memorable experience for visitors.
The beach is accessible via ramps and ladders, leading directly into the water. The natural swimming pool is particularly popular with families, thanks to its safe and enclosed environment. However, the western side of the beach, which is less enclosed, also attracts a number of visitors. For those who want to swim in deeper waters away from the crowd, they can pass through one of the natural arches that separate the pool from the open sea or even dive from the cliffs.
The beach is equipped with a number of amenities for visitors' convenience. There is a small bar where visitors can buy drinks and snacks to enjoy on the beach. Toilet and shower facilities are also available. Flat spaces are available for storing towels and umbrellas, although these can become very busy, especially during the week.
Parking is available for visitors, but it is recommended to arrive early in the morning to secure a spot. Similarly, those wishing to claim a spot for their umbrella should aim to arrive early. Visitors are also advised to wear appropriate water shoes due to the rocky terrain.
The area around the beach also offers other attractions such as the Tower of Palane, built in the 16th century to defend against invasions by sea, and the Church of Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo, dating back to the 14th century. Despite its small size, Marina Serra is a village with great richness, combining history and nature in a tranquil setting.
