Fontanamare

Fontanamare is a picturesque beach located on the west side of the island. It is characterized by its long stretch of fine sand and is renowned for its breathtaking sunset views. The beach is easily accessible, with ample parking available close to the seaside. However, visitors should be aware that the route suggested by Google Maps includes a destroyed bridge, and to reach the beach, one must cross through a dog beach and a barrier separating a small river from the parking area. The beach lacks certain amenities such as toilets and changing rooms, and there is only one small bar in the vicinity. If a beach bar is necessary, visitors must walk approximately 1.5 km to the next beach south of Fontanamare. Despite these shortcomings, the beach is a popular spot for kite surfing, particularly in late September when the wind conditions are favorable. Visitors are advised to visit Fontanamare between the waning quarter moon and the waxing quarter moon. During this period, the beach experiences low tide and lower currents, creating more favorable conditions for beachgoers. Outside of this period, the beach can have high waves and currents, which may not be suitable for all visitors.
