Formby Beach

Formby Beach is a tranquil haven located approximately an hour and a half drive from Central Manchester. It is known for its serene and enjoyable atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and evening outings. The beach is characterized by its natural beauty, featuring vast sand dunes and a clean shoreline. It is also surrounded by walking tracks and designated sitting areas, providing opportunities for leisurely strolls and relaxation. The beach is accessible via a sandy path from the parking area, which is situated a distance away, approximately 7 to 8 minutes' walk. There is also a raised boarded walkway leading down to the beach. The parking is priced at £8 for the whole day, but it is free for National Trust Members. There are also specific parking spaces for horseboxes and trailers. While the beach lacks amenities such as beach chairs, umbrellas, and shops, it does have toilet facilities located by the car park. However, these facilities close at 4:30 pm, so visitors are advised to come prepared with everything they might need for the day, including a picnic, towel, sunshade, and plenty of drinks. Formby Beach is also known for its Red Squirrel Walk, a nature trail where dogs are required to be on a lead. The rest of the beach area is extremely dog-friendly, offering a vast space where dogs can run freely. Lifeguards patrol the beach, adding an extra layer of safety for visitors. Despite the lack of facilities and amenities, Formby Beach is highly recommended for its natural beauty and peaceful ambiance. It is a beautiful place for a relaxing day by the beach, offering a lovely sunset view and a unique experience of being surrounded by nature.
