Praia da Gaivota

Praia da Gaivota is a picturesque beach located in the coastal town of Quarteira, Portugal. This beach is well-known for its long stretch of sandy terrain and is often bustling with activity during the summer months, but tends to be much quieter during the rest of the year, except for the onset of the tourist season in March. Despite the seasonal variations, the weather at Praia da Gaivota remains enjoyable throughout the year, with winter temperatures averaging around 19°C. The natural beauty of Praia da Gaivota is complemented by its clean and tranquil environment, making it an ideal destination for a variety of activities such as long walks along the coast, swimming, or simply basking in the sun. Interestingly, it is reported to be less crowded towards the end of May, especially on weekday afternoons. In terms of amenities, Praia da Gaivota is surrounded by a diverse range of restaurants and shops, providing ample options for daytime and nighttime leisure. Additionally, there is a promenade known as 'calçada' near the beach where visitors can take leisurely strolls, enjoy food and drinks, and soak in the local culture. Towards the end of this promenade, where there are typically fewer people, public restrooms and outdoor rinse showers are available for beachgoers' convenience. There are also numerous refreshment options available in this area. Praia da Gaivota also serves as the venue for the annual Marcha Corrida da Batata-Doce event, which is a community-driven event that involves a five or ten-kilometer route and promotes physical exercise amidst the scenic backdrop of Quarteira. This event, which is organized by the Quarteira Parish Council in partnership with the Loulé Municipal Council and the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, culminates in a gathering where roasted sweet potatoes are distributed to the participants.
