Beach Grand Crohot is a popular ocean beach located on the Cap Ferret peninsula in Lège-Cap-Ferret, New-Aquitaine. The beach is the first one encountered after passing the village of Lège at the entrance of the peninsula. It is known for its soft sand, clear water, and the surrounding natural beauty of forest and dunes.
The beach is accessible throughout the year via walkways, and it is supervised by lifeguards from early June to mid-September. In the absence of lifeguards, an emergency call station is available on site. Visitors are advised to pay attention to the color of the flags installed by the lifeguards to avoid swimming outside the monitored areas and to be cautious of breaking waves and undertow.
Beach Grand Crohot is equipped with several amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable visit. There are shops, facilities, and restaurants near the main access points, and surf schools are available for those interested in surfing. In addition, Tiralo's, a type of amphibious wheelchair, are available during July and August, making the beach and water more accessible to wheelchair users.
Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a clean environment. However, visitors should be aware that certain activities are prohibited on the beach, including wild camping, parking of vehicles, dogs, use of sound equipment and instruments, rubbish dumping, and use of fire.
The beach has a large parking area, but parking can be challenging during peak times, particularly in mid-August when the beach becomes quite crowded. In 2021, an experimental tool was introduced by the Lège-Cap Ferret municipality to allow visitors to check the real-time occupancy rate of the Grand Crohot parking lot, helping them plan their visit more efficiently.
To reach the beach, visitors may need to walk for about 15 minutes on sand dunes from the parking area. It is also worth noting that exiting the parking area can take a considerable amount of time in the evening. For those seeking a more secluded experience, the northeast part of the beach is recommended as it is less frequented by lifeguards and surfers.
