Grande Plage

Grande Plage, located in the vibrant port city of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in the Vendée region of France, is a long sandy beach stretching over three kilometers from the city's port to Jaunay beach. It is particularly known for its expansive size and its fine, sandy shores, making it a popular destination for both tourists and locals. The beach is a hub for various water sports and activities, including surfing, kite surfing, and beach sailing. It also offers paddle fitness and paddleboard rentals, with a nautical base present for enthusiasts. Additionally, it serves as a venue for cultural and sports activities, as well as for beach clubs and municipal events. Grande Plage is equipped with several amenities to enhance the visitor experience. Beach cabins and umbrellas are available for rent, providing a comfortable beach experience. The beach also has facilities to accommodate people with reduced mobility, such as Tiralo and Hippocampe, and has been awarded the level 1 Handiplage label for its efforts to provide accessibility and facilities for people with disabilities. During the summer months and on certain weekends before and after the season, lifeguards supervise the beach to ensure the safety of visitors. The main lifeguard station is located on this beach. Despite the presence of lifeguards, the beach can get crowded, especially in the areas near the embankment and the city center. However, a quieter spot perfect for families with small children can be found about one kilometer further south. Access to the beach from Rue de la Roche Bonneau can be challenging for those with prams or wheelchairs. The beach is also part of the "Plage sans tabac" initiative, which aims to create smoke-free areas on the beach to protect the health of visitors and the environment. Despite occasional issues with littering, the natural beauty and recreational opportunities offered by Grande Plage continue to attract visitors.
