Spiaggia Kafara

Spiaggia Kafara, also recognized as "la spiaggia del Kafara," is a picturesque pebble beach nestled in Santa Flavia, near Sant'Elia. It is renowned for its distinctive emerald and blue hues, which can be admired from the adjacent road. Visitors can access this beach by descending a famous set of stairs, known as the "100 gradini" or 100 steps, even though the actual step count exceeds 100. The beach is primarily visited by locals and tourists with private transportation as there are no shuttle or public transport services available. It can get quite crowded during the summer months, and parking, while free of charge, can be limited due to high demand. Despite the lack of certain amenities like showers, the beach offers a bar, rental services for beach equipment like sunbeds and umbrellas, and a small kiosk where visitors can rent chairs and purchase refreshments. The beach is part of the Costa d'Oro or Golden Coast and is open from 8:00 until 19:00. It is subject to east winds, which can make the sea rough, but the water is typically warm and clean, particularly in the mornings. However, the tide change in the afternoon can result in more algae and garbage near the shore. Despite this, the beach is still a popular spot due to its warm, waveless waters and the chance to experience local life. While the beach lacks certain amenities and services, making it not ideal for a day trip, it is still worth visiting if you're in the vicinity. After 7pm, the beach tends to quiet down when the kiosk closes, providing a perfect opportunity for an evening stroll or a quick swim. It is advisable to bring an umbrella, cooler, and some food for a day at the beach. Accommodation options nearby include bed and breakfast establishments and a campground.
