Karagatsia, also known as Αμμουλιανή, is a tranquil creek located two kilometers west of the main village in Ammouliani. It is known for its emerald green waters, golden sands, and lush landscapes that offer a serene and picturesque environment. The area is never overly crowded or noisy, making it an ideal retreat. The beach is partially organized; half of it provides free sunbeds with an order from the beach bar, while the other half is open for visitors to lay their towels on the sand. The beach bar offers a variety of food and beverages, including fast food and classic cocktails.
Despite its natural beauty, there are a few amenities that are lacking at Karagatsia. There are no shower facilities, and the toilets are of the chemical variety. Additionally, there is a scarcity of trash cans, with only one available that tends to fill up quickly. Despite these minor inconveniences, visitors continue to be drawn to Karagatsia for its tranquility and natural beauty.
One of the unique features of Karagatsia is a small bay that is great for snorkeling. However, caution is advised as the waters can deepen quickly. There is also a small kiosk called Karagatsia Kantine, where visitors can enjoy coffee, refreshments, and food.
Parking at Karagatsia is somewhat limited. There is a small parking area available, but it is recommended that visitors arrive before 10 AM to secure a spot. If the parking area is full, visitors may have to resort to parking at the side of the road. Despite these minor inconveniences, Karagatsia remains a beloved destination for its tranquility and natural beauty.
