Keramas Beach is a serene and picturesque beach located in the Gianyar area, on the far East of Bali island. It is characterized by its beautiful black sand that sparkles in the sunlight, creating a unique and mesmerizing sight. The beach is known for its strong and high waves, making it a popular spot for surfers. However, these waves can be too strong for swimming, and there are warnings in some spots along the coast due to a strong current.
Despite its natural beauty, Keramas Beach is not typically crowded. It is often fairly empty, with only a few tourists and fishermen present, especially during the later afternoon on weekends. This makes it a peaceful and quiet place, perfect for a morning walk along the beach to catch the sunrise or simply to sit and enjoy the view.
The beach is somewhat isolated, being away from the usual tourist spots. As such, visitors are advised to pack food and drinks, and to have a reliable mode of transport. There are a few nice restaurants in the vicinity, as well as surfer bars and cafes, and even some beach clubs with a pool. However, the beach itself does not have much in terms of amenities. It is also important to note that the black sand can really heat up during the day, so it is best to keep sandals or slippers on until reaching the slightly damper part of the beach.
Unfortunately, the beach has been reported to have a problem with plastic trash, which may not make it ideal for children to play in the sand. There is also a dedicated surfing school on the beach, catering to those interested in surfing.
