Kumluova Plajı is a sandy beach situated in the Seydikemer district of Muğla, Turkey. It forms a 5 km stretch of the 18 km long Patara Beach. Its location, along the coast and in proximity to the Eşen River, gives it a unique charm and makes it a notable tourist destination. The Eşen River, acting as a natural border between Fethiye and Antalya, flows into the sea at this point, creating a distinctive swimming experience with a mix of warm and cold water.
The beach is recognized for its quality sand and waves, offering a distinct experience compared to the pebble beaches that are typically found in the region. Its sandy terrain is not only ideal for beach activities but also suitable for agriculture. Moreover, it serves as a nesting and egg-laying site for the Caretta Caretta sea turtles, adding to its ecological significance.
Kumluova Plajı is often less crowded, attracting only a handful of tourists, which enhances its appeal for visitors seeking a more serene beach experience. Despite its lesser width compared to the Patara side and the presence of some river sediments affecting water transparency, the beach is appreciated for its natural beauty. It is also known for its comfortable entry, devoid of stones that might cause discomfort to visitors.
The local municipality has provided Yörük tents and day facilities for visitors, improving the amenities at the beach. Some adventurous tourists have even trekked the full length from Patara ruins, waded through the river, and camped overnight as part of their Lycian Way Trek.
In addition to beach activities, Kumluova Plajı is located near ancient sites, offering opportunities for historical tourism. The Likya Yolu trail passes through the area, providing access to various historical landmarks. Furthermore, its close proximity to Fethiye and Kaş allows visitors to access a wide range of tourist facilities, shopping options, cuisine, and entertainment.
