Plage de la Folaca is a stunning beach located in the southern part of Corsica, France, in the town of Porto-Vecchio. It is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring crystal-clear waters and golden sand which contribute to its reputation as one of Corsica's most beautiful beaches. The beach is surrounded by Corsican maquis, a type of Mediterranean scrubland, and dense vegetation, providing a peaceful and authentic atmosphere for visitors.
The beach extends from Palombaggia Beach, and it is accessible by foot through a trail that winds through rocks and the sea. It lies in the southern part of Palombaggia Bay, between the beaches of Acciaju and Tamaricciu, and stretches to the Colombara point. It is bordered by the Acciaju pond to the south, which adds to its picturesque setting. However, during strong east winds, the sea can become rough, and visitors are advised to move to the neighboring Acciaju beach, which offers better protection.
Despite its popularity, Plage de la Folaca is not overly crowded, even during peak seasons such as August. This makes it a perfect location for families with children due to the lack of waves and its safe environment. However, it's worth noting that the beach lacks certain amenities such as toilets, and some visitors have found it to be somewhat unorganized.
For visitors' comfort, the beach is equipped with numerous sunbeds and there are several restaurants nearby. A parking lot is conveniently located near the Acciaju pond, providing direct access to the beach. To reach Plage de la Folaca from Porto-Vecchio, visitors should take the N198 road towards Bonifacio and then turn left at the roundabout towards Bocca Di l'Oru. The beach is approximately 4.8 km away from this point.
