Plage de Lava

Plage de Lava, also referred to as Golfe de Lava, is a serene beach nestled on the west coast of Corsica in close proximity to the town of Ajaccio. The beach is part of the commune of Appietto and is mainly visited by locals from surrounding areas such as Alata, Appietto, and Afa. The beach is characterized by its golden sandy shores and calm waters, surrounded by natural and untouched maquis vegetation. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a tranquil and family-friendly atmosphere and is not overly crowded. The beach is accessible through a single road that culminates in a cul-de-sac right at the beach. The journey along the D381 from Col du Listincone, on the road between Ajaccio and Tiuccia/Sagone, is recommended. The road can be winding and narrow in places which may make crossing difficult, however, the pavement is in excellent condition, allowing all types of vehicles to traverse. A free parking area is available near the beach for the convenience of visitors. Plage de Lava offers a variety of recreational activities, particularly during the summer season. Water activities such as jet skiing, towed buoy rides, and diving are popular among visitors. The beach has a diving club, allowing visitors to explore the diverse marine life and underwater wrecks in the Gulf of Lava. Additionally, the beach serves as a gateway for boat trips along the western coast of Corsica, providing an opportunity to discover the natural reserve of Scandola, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the Calanques de Piana and Girolata. The beach is also situated in close proximity to a vacation village, which is just 200 meters away, connected by a pedestrian path. While there is no camping available, the village offers various accommodation options, including rooms, apartments, and duplexes that are family-friendly. Several dining options are also available along the beach, including a bar/restaurant at the Marina di Lava hotel and other establishments located a little further back from the beach. However, it is important to note that there is no tourist office or tourism bureau in the area.
