Plage de l'Huveaune is a notable beach situated in the bustling city of Marseille, France. The beach is named after the nearby Huveaune River and is recognized for its natural beauty, marked by clear waters and sandy shores. Notably, it is the only remaining sandy beach from Marseille's previous coastal configuration, before the establishment of other local beaches.
The beach is a popular destination for non-motorized water activities, such as surfing and windsurfing, especially during the winter months when the wind conditions are ideal. The impressive waves, unusual for the region, attract locals and visitors alike. During the summer season, Plage de l'Huveaune is frequented by families due to its supervised and safe environment. Children can comfortably stand far from the shore, and lifeguards monitor the beach daily from early June to early September.
Visitors to Plage de l'Huveaune can expect a range of amenities for their convenience. These include a public reception area, lockers, a living area for staff, a treatment and isolation room, restrooms, and a staff shower. These facilities are operational seven days a week, from 9:30 am to 6:45 pm, during the summer season. Additionally, bracelets are provided to prevent children from getting lost, available at the lockers.
Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a clean and well-kept environment. During peak summer months, it can become quite crowded, but less populated sections of the beach offer a more peaceful experience, although reaching these areas may require navigating some rocks.
Parking at Plage de l'Huveaune is accessible and convenient, with a paid parking area located nearby. The beach is also reachable by public transportation. Visitors can take the metro to either Castellane or Rond Point du Prado and then board bus 19. The beach is just a short two-minute walk down from Prado’s, making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists.
