Spiaggia Libera Balestrate, also known as Spiaggia di Balestrate, is a picturesque beach situated in the town of Balestrate. Renowned for its natural beauty, the beach extends about 7-8 kilometers along the coast and is largely untouched. It is characterized by its fine, golden sand and clear, shallow waters that make it an ideal destination for families with children.
The beach is bordered by the town's port and the mouth of the Jato river, with the main beach establishments located near this area, specifically in a region known as Cala della Forgia. Despite being one of the smaller seaside resorts on the Sicilian coast, it's considered one of the most attractive beach destinations due to its serene environment.
Apart from its natural features, Spiaggia Libera Balestrate offers several amenities for visitors' convenience. There is a coffee shack situated on the beach for refreshments, along with lidos. Parking is available near the beach, with both paid and free options. However, the beach tends to get crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, thus it may not be the best choice for those seeking tranquility during these periods.
Access to the beach is straightforward, with the entrance to the water being about 2 meters of stones. After a few dozen meters, the water becomes shallow, making it suitable for swimming. However, some areas of the beach are frequented by men, some of whom sunbathe naked, which might make it less suitable for families.
While the beach's natural beauty is a major draw, it's worth noting that the water can sometimes be turbid and the beach is not always clean. Despite these minor drawbacks, Spiaggia Libera Balestrate remains a popular spot for sea lovers and those seeking a tranquil beach experience.
