Mġarr ix-Xini

Mġarr ix-Xini is a tranquil bay nestled in the island of Gozo, Malta. It is positioned in a gorge to the west of Mġarr Harbour and can be reached from the nearby villages of Xewkija and Sannat. Historically, the bay was a small harbor for galleys during the rule of the Order and was protected by a watchtower built in 1661. The bay is renowned for its crystal clear waters and vibrant marine life, including octopus, gurnard, John Dory, cuttlefish, Forkbeard blenny, and sea cucumbers, along with beautiful coral and pipe worms. Its pebbled bay and serene waters make it a preferred spot for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. The bay's maximum depth for diving is approximately 10 meters, gradually sloping down, which provides excellent visibility and light for divers. Visitors to Mġarr ix-Xini can enjoy amenities such as a small bar and restaurant. Additionally, sunbeds are available for rent, providing a comfortable spot for relaxation. The beach is equipped with several ladders, facilitating easy access across the rocky terrain. Reaching Mġarr ix-Xini can be somewhat challenging due to the steep hill leading down to the beach. However, the breathtaking view of the bay that greets visitors upon arrival makes the journey worthwhile. Parking at Mġarr ix-Xini is available, though limited. The parking area is sandy and uneven, but its closeness to the beach makes it convenient for visitors. Despite its remote location, the bay is rarely crowded, offering a tranquil and serene atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.
