Playa Montaña Pelada is a serene cove located in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, in the southern part of Tenerife. It is known for its privacy and tranquility, due to it not being excessively crowded. The beach is characterized by its white-grayish sand and impressive cliffs, contributing to its natural allure.
The beach is situated in a natural space, surrounded by various coves that can be discovered by exploring the coastal paths. It is also near a dormant volcano, providing a unique backdrop to the beach's landscape. The area covers 1.5 square kilometers and harbors various plant species adapted to the sandy terrain, such as psamófilas, tabaibales, and cardonales. The dunes in the area hold a history of marine level fluctuations over centuries, adding to the beach's distinct charm.
Despite its natural beauty, Playa Montaña Pelada lacks certain amenities such as toilets, showers, and a beach bar. However, this does not deter visitors who appreciate the beach's tranquility and privacy. Nearby activities that visitors can enjoy include boat trips for whale watching, kayaking and snorkeling with turtles, and kayaking in the Los Gigantes cliffs.
To access Playa Montaña Pelada, visitors can head to the urbanization Arenas del Mar in El Médano, and park their vehicles at the end of Avenida Juan Carlos I, which is located next to the beach. The beach is also accessible via a half-hour walk from El Médano. Alternatively, visitors can reach the beach through the TF-1 road, taking the exit to San Isidro, then following the TF-64 road towards El Médano. From there, they can head towards La Jaquita or El Cabezo on Avda. Juan Carlos I, park their car at the end of the street and enter the protected natural area by crossing the La Barca ravine on foot.
For visitors seeking a more secluded experience, there is a section of the beach isolated by rocks designated for nudists. However, visitors should be cautious as there are some large rocks along the coastal line that can pose a danger, and the beach can be a bit windy at times.
