Playa Nueva is a beach located in the municipality of Tazacorte, on the island of La Palma in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. It is an isolated beach, stretching 470 meters long and 7 meters wide. The beach is characterized by its dark sand and a mixture of sand and pebbles, with moderate waves.
Playa Nueva can be accessed by car, with the nearest road being LP-2132. However, there is no parking available at the beach, and there is also no access for disabled individuals. Public transportation is also available to reach the beach, through interurban buses.
The beach does not have amenities such as toilets, showers, trash cans, or rental services for sunbeds and umbrellas. There are no sports or playground areas, and there is no nautical club or diving facilities. Despite the lack of amenities, the beach is a popular location for sunbathing and surfing, with the north side offering more demanding waves and the south side being suitable for beginners.
During peak season, the beach's occupancy level can vary from low to full, but it is usually not crowded. The nearest hospital to the beach is the General Hospital of La Palma, located 20 km away.
Despite its beauty, Playa Nueva is not ideal for swimming due to the presence of rocks, strong waves, and complicated access to the water. The beach's landscape has been significantly affected by various factors, including the construction of a port in Puerto Tazacorte and natural events such as the eruption of 'VolcĂĄn TanausĂș'. These have led to a transformation of the beach's appearance over the years, and as of November 2021, Playa Nueva no longer exists as it once did, marking a new chapter in its history.
