Paralia Aspros Gialos, also known as Ai Giannis, is a picturesque beach located on the island of Ithaca, Greece. Known for its natural scenic beauty, the beach features a landscape of white pebbles and clear turquoise waters, surrounded by a lush vertical slope covered with olive trees, cypresses, and shrubs. The unique rock formations and caves on the left side of the beach enhance its charm, creating small isolated sections for quieter moments. However, the beach lacks natural shade, so visitors are encouraged to bring their own sun protection.
In addition to its natural features, Aspros Gialos has basic amenities, including a few sun beds and umbrellas. Despite its relatively small size, the beach is quite popular and can become crowded, particularly during peak seasons. Nonetheless, during off-peak times such as late May, visitors can enjoy a serene experience with few other people around.
The beach overlooks the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca, offering stunning views of Sami and the villages of Pylaros and Erisos of Kefalonia. It is accessible via a paved road from the village of Lefki in northern Ithaca, which descends to the sea. Along this route, visitors can also access several smaller, more secluded beaches through various detours and paths.
Parking for Aspros Gialos is available on the sides of the nearby road, followed by a walk down some steep steps to reach the beach. Although the walk may be challenging for some, parking is generally considered easy and convenient. The beach's clear and calm waters, especially in the morning, make it a suitable spot for activities such as spearfishing near the rocks.
