Paralia Kolona

Paralia Kolona is a unique and stunning beach located on the Greek island of Kythnos. Known for its natural beauty, the beach features a narrow strip of fine, golden sand that connects the main island to the islet of Agios Loukas. The sea on both sides of the strip is known for its crystal clear waters that blend seamlessly with the azure Aegean Sea, providing a tranquil escape for visitors. The natural characteristics of Paralia Kolona are further enhanced by the surrounding infertile slopes and rugged cliffs, creating a sense of exclusivity and unspoiled charm. The beach is also home to a vibrant marine life that can be explored through snorkeling. Despite its beauty, Paralia Kolona is not overly crowded, especially towards the end of September, offering a serene atmosphere away from the usual tourist spots. However, it is important to note that there is limited natural shade available. While there are two large trees providing some cover, visitors are advised to bring a beach umbrella for additional shade. Paralia Kolona has limited amenities, including a tavern that operates during the daytime. However, there is no quay, meaning private boat owners are able to land directly on the sand. The beach does not have any dedicated parking facilities, and the road leading to the beach is rough and not asphalted, with the first 20 meters being particularly challenging. Despite this, the beach can be reached by careful and slow driving, even with a low car. The beach is located approximately 3 km west of Chora village and can be reached by a taxi boat from Merihas, the main port of Kythnos. Alternatively, for those who enjoy hiking, the beach can be reached on foot from the port, though this journey takes a couple of hours. Despite some minor inconveniences, Paralia Kolona is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on Kythnos and is a must-visit location for those exploring the island. The beach is also located near a hill and a church, which offer great views of the surrounding area.
