Playa de Pendueles, also known as Castiello, is a picturesque beach located in Llanes, Asturias, towards the east of the rural area of Pendueles. This somewhat secluded and wild beach is known for its distinctive natural characteristics and the tranquility it offers.
The beach spans approximately 150 meters and is composed of pebbles, dark sand, and rocks. It is nestled between cliffs, offering a unique and inspiring landscape. A notable feature of Playa de Pendueles is its connection to an islet called Los Picones through a narrow strip of land and rocks, known as a tombolo. The beach is part of the Protected Landscape of the Eastern Coast, further adding to its natural charm.
Despite its beauty, Playa de Pendueles has no facilities or equipment available, adding to its wild and untouched allure. Its rocky shoreline and the presence of pebbles and gravel may make it uncomfortable for swimming. Visitors are also advised to be prepared with sturdy footwear, particularly on wet days, due to the challenging access path from the surrounding cliffs.
Parking for the beach is limited, and visitors may have to park approximately 1 kilometer away. Therefore, it may be more convenient to access the beach on foot from the town of Pendueles. The beach is also accessible by car and train.
Playa de Pendueles is not typically crowded, providing a peaceful spot for sunbathing and enjoying the natural scenery. However, during the bathing season, which runs from June 1st to September 30th, it is prohibited to bring domestic animals to the beach, and violators may face penalties.
Despite some drawbacks, such as the potential for a stagnant smell in August, the presence of seaweed, and a significant number of flies, many visitors find the effort to reach Playa de Pendueles worthwhile for its tranquil and photogenic qualities.
