Plage de Piantarella is a picturesque beach located near the city of Bonifacio in the southeastern part of Corsica, France. Known for its beautiful limestone sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, the beach provides a serene and preserved environment that attracts nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts.
The beach is accessible by car, with the journey from the center of Bonifacio taking approximately 15 minutes. Visitors can reach the beach by driving towards Pertusato, continuing straight until reaching a dead end near Sperone and Piantarella. Upon arrival, visitors encounter a small port and a sailing school on the left, with the beach situated to the right after a short walk past some rocks. However, it should be noted that parking can be challenging, especially during peak season, due to limited spaces and lack of clear indications.
Plage de Piantarella offers a range of beach activities suitable for both adults and children. It is one of the most popular windsurfing sites in Corsica, with equipment rentals available for those interested in windsurfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. The beach is also a popular spot for anchoring boats. The warm and clear sea is ideal for children to play in and for snorkeling, offering an opportunity to observe diverse marine life.
The beach is located within the Bouches de Bonifacio nature reserve, and visitors are expected to respect the natural environment by adhering to the rules and taking their waste with them. A unique feature of Plage de Piantarella is the possibility to cross to a nearby island by walking for about five minutes in the water or by renting a kayak. This island, devoid of any commercial establishments, offers a serene and untouched environment.
In addition to the main beach area, a 10-minute walk to the right leads to the beautiful cove of Petit Sperone, and further along the path is the larger south-facing beach of Grand Sperone. These nearby areas offer fine and soft limestone sand, stunning cliffs, and beautiful views of the Lavezzi Islands and even Sardinia on clear days.
Despite some challenges, such as the need to climb some rocks to access the beach and occasional algae coverage, the natural beauty and superb quality of the water make Plage de Piantarella a worthwhile destination.
