Platja de Ponent is one of two beaches in the municipality of El Masnou. It is located on the west side of the port and is further from the urban center of PremiĂ de Mar. Despite its proximity to an industrial zone, the beach is known for its natural beauty and pleasant atmosphere.
The beach is characterized by its narrow stretch of sand, large rocks acting as breakwaters, and an abundance of stones. This unique terrain makes it a favorite spot for leisurely walks along the sea, especially during the breathtaking sunsets. However, it may not be as suitable for swimming due to the rocky terrain, and visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear such as pumps.
Despite being relatively less crowded even during the peak summer season, Platja de Ponent is popular among nudists and surfers. The beach is also a nesting site for sea turtles, specifically the loggerhead turtle.
The beach season begins on June 11th and ends on September 11th. During this period, lifeguard services are available and there are designated smoking areas on the terraces of the beach bars and the promenade. Violation of the no-smoking rule on the beach can result in fines.
There are sanitary facilities and service areas available for visitors. The beach also provides services for people with reduced mobility, including the use of an amphibious chair to access the sea.
Platja de Ponent is easily accessible from the town center and is well connected by public transportation, including buses and trains. During the summer, the Ocata train station is closed for construction. Alternatively, the beach can be reached on foot from La DescĂ rrega beach via a dirt path that runs along the entire stretch of sand.
The beach encourages a healthy lifestyle and respectful behavior towards other beachgoers. The Agència Catalana de l'Aigua monitors the water quality and there is a designated area for fishing in the Ocata beach 24 hours a day.
