Platja de S'Hort de Sa Cova, located in the municipality of Valldemossa, is an unspoiled pebble beach known for its natural beauty and tranquility. It is nestled in a rocky cove close to the well-known Port d'es Canonge in Mallorca. The beach is 150 meters long and 35 meters wide and is characterized by its posidonia seaweed bed on the shore and throughout the beach. The terrain is rocky, accentuated by ancient pines, and is home to local fauna such as goats.
One of the beach's unique features is a stream on its southwest side that flows into the sea from approximately 2 meters above sea level. Depending on the time of year, this creates a picturesque mini waterfall. The beach's location also makes it an ideal spot to watch the sunset.
The beach, however, does not offer any amenities such as restaurants, water sports facilities, or disabled access. It also lacks shaded areas, making it more suitable for visitors who prefer a more natural and wild beach experience.
Access to the beach requires a walk of about 3 kilometers from the entrance of a dirt road. This walk, which takes about 20 minutes, is downhill with steep slopes, and is surrounded by forests with occasional coastal views. Due to the rocky nature of the beach, it is advised to bring suitable footwear for swimming and to be cautious of potential falling rocks.
The beach does not have a dedicated parking area, so visitors are recommended to park at the entrance of the dirt road. Despite these challenges, the beach is part of an easy hiking route that starts at Port des Canonge, follows the Cami vell d'Esporles and Cami de sa cova, and ends back at Port des Canonge. This circular route covers a total distance of approximately 12.5 km and takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
The beach is not typically crowded, offering a quiet and peaceful atmosphere for visitors. It also provides opportunities for snorkeling in the immense sea and exploring nearby caves. However, it is not a recommended spot for scuba diving.
