Pozo Beach is a distinctive coastal spot situated in Candelaria, Tenerife, nestled near a lively port area. Its unique appeal lies in its pebbly and soil composition, offering a different beach experience compared to traditional sandy beaches. Despite being adjacent to a main road and a curve, contributing to a somewhat noisy environment, the beach provides a breathtaking ocean view in a clean and well-maintained setting.
The beach is equipped with a broad promenade, furnished with seating spaces for visitors to unwind and soak in the scenic surroundings. However, visitors should be aware that Pozo Beach is not recommended for swimming. This is due to various sewage spills that have occurred there over the years, and its close proximity to fish markets and the Candelaria Fishermen's Guild.
Concerning amenities, Pozo Beach offers organized parking in the vicinity. Nevertheless, due to the beach's popularity, visitors might face potential delays in securing a parking spot. The beach's location and natural beauty make it a favoured holiday spot with warm average temperatures of around 28 degrees.
In recent times, Pozo Beach has been facing the threat of permanent closure due to ongoing sewage issues caused by the poor condition of the sanitation system. The beach was closed on July 31st following a sewage spill and subsequent health analysis results advising its closure. The mayor of Candelaria has suggested that it might be best not to use Pozo Beach as a bathing area. If the closure is confirmed, Candelaria will lose one of its most popular bathing areas.
