S'Arenal, also known as Playa S'Arenalet d'Aubarca, is a serene and picturesque beach situated on the north coast of Mallorca, within the municipality of Artà. It is a small cove, extending about 130 meters in length and 40 meters in width. The beach is made up of a mix of gravel and golden sand, and its tranquil waters, with moderate waves, are suitable for swimming.
The beach is surrounded by stunning cliffs and a small pine forest that offers shade, providing a secluded and intimate atmosphere. This lack of buildings and cars further adds to the peacefulness of the area. The underwater biodiversity found in the seagrass meadows makes the beach a popular spot for snorkeling.
Despite the tranquility it offers, S'Arenal also provides a number of amenities. During the summer months, a portion of the beach becomes a naturist area. The beach also offers opportunities for air-powered sports, such as surfing. However, it is important to note that the beach has been experiencing a seaweed issue in recent years, particularly around mid-September, when the waterline and parts of the beach can be covered with seaweed.
Access to S'Arenal is not straightforward by car. The beach can only be reached by foot from S'Arenal de Artà, and the path to the beach is steep, so visitors are advised to come prepared with all necessary items. Despite the slightly challenging access, free parking is available a 10-minute walk from the beach. The beach is not widely featured in tourist guides and there are no scheduled buses to the location, which keeps it relatively uncrowded, maintaining its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
