Playa de Sorraos is a captivating beach located in the eastern region of Asturias, Spain, in the picturesque coastal town of Llanes. Nestled within the Barro parish, the beach is a part of the Comarca del Oriente de Asturias, an area renowned for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. The beach's location gives it a unique appeal, with the town's historical architecture, rich maritime tradition, and vibrant folklore adding to its charm.
The beach is characterized by its peculiar shapes and whitish, fine sand, which stretches for approximately 50 meters, with its width varying depending on the tides. Two small islands, Isla Ramón and Isla Llubeces, coupled with the surrounding vegetation, enhance its environmental value and contribute to its designation as a natural heritage beach. The beach's transparent waters are generally safe for swimming, though caution is advised due to the presence of rocks on both sides of the beach. When the tide rises, the beach becomes smaller, revealing intriguing corners that can be explored from the nearby Playa del Barro.
Playa de Sorraos is known for its high occupancy, attracting a diverse range of tourists interested in accessible tourism, outdoor activities, ecotourism, and beach vacations. Despite this, it maintains a serene and intimate atmosphere, less crowded than other beaches in the area. It also offers a grass esplanade between the beach and the adjacent campsite, providing an alternative spot for visitors when the tide rises and the beach becomes smaller.
The beach is easily accessible by foot and features a paid parking area for visitors. Surveillance equipment is installed for the safety of visitors, and the nearest hospital is located in Llanes for emergency situations. For those looking to extend their stay, a camping site, open from April 1st to September 30th, and during holidays and weekends, is available near the beach. However, it's noteworthy that the beach transforms into a private area during high tide, accessible only through Camping Sorraos. There is also a restaurant located near the beach, offering an opportunity to indulge in the local gastronomy.
