Plage du Stagnone, often referred to as Plage de Liscia, is a leisure center situated in Calcatoggio, a municipality located in Southern Corsica. The beach is nestled in the Gulf of Liscia, north of Ajaccio, and is known for its vast sandy stretch that extends over a kilometer between the towers of Ancone and Capogliolo. The region presents a fusion of countryside and mountains, with narrow roads passing through typical villages. The beach's location offers stunning views of the Gulf of Sagone and it is famous for its breathtaking sunsets.
Despite being a popular spot among tourists, Plage du Stagnone is not typically crowded, even during the summer months. The beach is often filled with visitors in the afternoons, but usually remains quieter in the mornings. However, it should be noted that during the months of July and August, the beach is monitored and dogs are not permitted on the premises.
The beach is easily accessible via the D81 road from Ajaccio towards Cargèse. After the junction for Calcatoggio, one should continue on the D81 for about 4 kilometers and then make a left turn towards Orcino. The beach is reached through a gravel path that leads directly from the road.
Plage du Stagnone is equipped with two parking areas for visitors' convenience. One is located near the A-Marina campsite, while another is found further down the road, past various hotels and residences. The parking is both free and spacious, adding to the convenience for visitors.
The natural characteristics of Plage du Stagnone include clean sand and clear blue water. The water is shallow, making it a suitable destination for families with children. The beach also provides some opportunities for watersports during the summer months, and there is lifeguard supervision provided until 19:00. Visitors are advised to exercise caution during rough sea conditions as the beach can become dangerous. It is also recommended for visitors to bring a sun umbrella for shade due to the lack of natural shade on the beach.
