Plage de Ster-Vraz, commonly known as Sauzon, is a large, picturesque beach located on the west side of Belle-ĂŽle-en-Mer in Morbihan, Brittany. The beach is easily accessible and is located in a deep cove, offering stunning views of the ocean and surrounding cliffs.
The beach is characterized by its small white quartz pebbles and is not known for having particularly fine sand. Despite this, the beach is a popular destination for both occasional visitors and regulars. It provides a different experience from typical sandy beaches and is often busy with visitors, including those who have set up caravans nearby.
Plage de Ster-Vraz is a habitat for various animals and plant species, making it a place of interest for nature lovers. The beach faces northwest and is well-protected from the northwest and southeast winds by the surrounding cliffs and tamarisk trees located at the back of the beach.
The beach features a small parking lot situated right in front of it for the convenience of visitors. However, guests are advised to avoid setting up near the tamarisk trees for shade, as this area is frequently used by people to relieve themselves.
In terms of amenities, Plage de Ster-Vraz is near Ster Ouen and the port of Ster Ouen. There are also hiking trails and a cycle route nearby, enhancing the overall experience for visitors. However, caution is advised when using the hiking trail near the beach due to incidents of falls from the cliff.
The beach is also known for its significant tidal changes and the presence of jellyfish and algae. Despite these natural occurrences, children can still enjoy the water. Visitors are advised to arrive in the late afternoon with a picnic to enjoy the sunset, though they should be prepared for the significant presence of flies during this time.
