Wongaling Beach

Wongaling Beach is a serene and picturesque beach located between Mission Beach to the north and South Mission Beach to the south. It is part of the town of Mission Beach on the Cassowary Coast, just over a two-hour drive south of Cairns. The beach is known for its long stretch of white sand and clear blue oceans, offering spectacular views towards Dunk Island. The beach is characterized by its natural beauty, including estuaries that sometimes block access to the north and south, particularly after the rainy season. Despite this, it is possible to walk from the northern Mission Beach all the way to the end of South Mission Beach, a distance of about 14 kilometers. This makes for a beautiful walk, especially on the hard sand at low tide. Visitors are advised to keep an eye out for the crocodiles around the two estuaries. Wongaling Beach is also known for its classic far North Queensland picturesque sunrise, best witnessed between tides. The beach is generally quiet and not crowded, making it a hidden gem of the Cassowary Coast. In terms of amenities, Wongaling Beach has just enough shops to ensure visitors have everything they need. The Family Islands, including Dunk and Bedarra, are just off the coast, with launch transfers available. The beach is also in close proximity to farm gates selling local produce like pineapples and bananas.
