Asnelles Beach

Asnelles Beach is a beautiful, low-key resort located in Asnelles, France. The beach is known for its expansive size, particularly noticeable at low tide. The area is rich in history, as it was the landing site of the 231° British Infantry Brigade, commanded by Sir General Alexander Stanier, on June 6, 1944. This marked the first British Regiment to set foot in Normandy during World War II. The landing was challenging due to the German cannon that covered the entire beach on the east side, resulting in several houses being severely damaged and destroyed. The resort offers a variety of amenities including a well-stocked store and a bakery, although it should be noted that the bakery closes at 13:00 and is not open on Thursdays. There is also a small market available on Thursdays. For dining options, there is a biscuit shop and tea room. However, the area may not offer a wide variety of options for vegetarians. The beach is easily accessible and there are activity centers nearby for those looking for more than just a beach experience. Despite its historical significance and natural beauty, the beach is not typically crowded, providing a peaceful and serene environment for visitors. The resort closes at the end of August, making it an ideal summer destination.
