Cala Civette

Cala Civette is a picturesque beach situated on the Tuscan coast within the Scarlino Nature Reserve. It is renowned for its pristine and untouched landscape, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. The beach is named after the 16th-century tower, Torre Civette, which stands on a nearby promontory overlooking the beach. This tower, having undergone modifications in the 18th and early 20th centuries, was once a strategic fortress for the Principality of Piombino. Both the tower and an adjacent farm are now privately owned. The beach's natural beauty is characterized by its clear, turquoise waters, golden sands, and surrounding lush green Mediterranean scrub. The sea is rich in fish, which makes it an excellent spot for snorkeling and observing the local marine life. The sandy seabed extends to shallow depths for about 50 meters, making the water suitable for families with children. The beach is generally not overcrowded, even during peak season. Behind the beach, there are predominantly camping areas. However, visitors should be aware that seaweed can sometimes be found on the beach, and the amenities are somewhat limited. There are no services like sunbeds, umbrellas, or establishments, and there is no toilet service available. There are some food spots, but visitors are advised to bring their own food and drinks. Several parking options are available for visitors. The Val Martina parking lot, accessible from S.P. 158 delle Collacchie at kilometer 10, requires a reservation and a daily fee. From this parking lot, a 2.5-kilometer walk is required to reach the beach. Another option is the paid parking at Viale Garibaldi in Puntone (tourist port). From here, visitors need to follow signs and walk about 5 kilometers from the Costiere area barrier to reach Cala Civette. There is also parking available on the vicinal road of Pian d'Alma-Torre Civette, accessed from S.P. 158 delle Collacchie. This parking lot does not require a reservation and is subject to a daily fee. From this location, a 1.2-kilometer walk is needed to reach the beach. Alternatively, a free car park is available 100 meters away from the beach, accessible by following signs for Puntone di Scarlino and continuing on the Provincial Road 158 towards Pian d'Alma. For the more adventurous, a scenic nature trail in the Costiere area provides an opportunity to reach Cala Civette by bike. This trail is approximately 5 kilometers from Puntone di Scarlino (Terra Rossa) and about 2.5 kilometers from the Val Martina parking lot (Pian d'Alma). Another bike route starting from Puntone di Scarlino passes through various beaches, including Cala Civette, and is about 4.5 kilometers long, taking roughly 20 minutes to reach the beach.
