Spiaggia del Bagno is a serene pebble beach situated between the towns of Procchio and Marciana Marina on the northern coastline of the Island of Elba. The beach, though small, stretching 70 meters in length and 10 meters in width, offers a tranquil atmosphere, particularly cherished by locals and residents of surrounding houses. This sense of tranquility is maintained even during the bustling summer season, making the beach an ideal location for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
The beach is defined by its gray pebble and gravel shoreline, with a striking rocky cliff on its right side, apt for diving. The shallow, clear sea waters surrounding the beach are known for their abundant marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling. However, the cleanliness of the water can fluctuate at times with the occasional presence of light white foam. By late afternoon, around 18:30, the beach is enveloped in shade, providing a cool refuge from the afternoon sun.
Spiaggia del Bagno holds historical significance for the Island of Elba, as it was formerly one of the island's two tuna processing facilities, or "tonnare," until the 1950s. The structures behind the beach that have since been transformed into summer residences were once integral parts of the tuna processing complex, including warehouses and accommodations.
Visitors can reach Spiaggia del Bagno by following a sign on the provincial road between Procchio and Marciana Marina. This sign directs to a cemented pathway that leads to a series of steps descending directly to the beach. Despite the beach's accessibility, parking can be a challenge due to limited spaces available along the sides of the provincial road.
The beach does not offer any services, and there are no private sections, hence it is completely free and open to the public. From its shoreline, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Gulf of Procchio extending to the Enfola peninsula.
