Spiaggia Del Cannello is a secluded beach in Capoliveri, Tuscany, Italy. It is located near the Miniera Calamita on the southern slope of Monte Calamita. The beach is known for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere due to its remote location and the limited number of visitors it receives. It is particularly appreciated by those who enjoy tranquility and solitude.
Spiaggia Del Cannello is characterized by its unique geological features. The beach consists of a mix of black and white sand, shale, and pebbles. The rocks in the area display a spectrum of colors from green to red, yellow, and black. The sand is dark due to the presence of iron minerals, contrasting with the large light-colored stones in the background. In the summer, the black sand absorbs heat, creating a very warm environment. The sea is clear and crystalline, making it a popular destination for boats.
The surrounding environment of Spiaggia Del Cannello is spectacular. The coastline is carved into steps and red rocks, and the landscape is deeply marked by mining activity, with stone steps revealing the red oxidations of iron-rich rocks. This makes the beach and its immediate vicinity worth exploring.
Despite its natural beauty, Spiaggia Del Cannello does not provide many amenities. There are no facilities or shaded areas on the beach, so visitors are advised to bring their own beach equipment, including umbrellas. Because the beach is pebbly, it is also recommended to wear flip flops or sandals.
To get to Spiaggia Del Cannello, visitors can park at the nearby visitor center of the Capoliveri Mines and follow a trail for about 100 meters to a barrier. Despite a sign prohibiting entry, visitors can proceed down the road, which descends in switchbacks, passing by the remains of the mining village, until reaching the beach. Alternatively, there is another slightly steeper trail that also starts from the museum of mines. Both trails are approximately 2 kilometers long and can be challenging to navigate with beach gear. As such, many visitors choose to arrive by boat or canoe.
