Spiaggia del Cotoncello, situated in the tourist area of Sant'Andrea on Elba Island, is a small, secluded beach known for its picturesque natural surroundings. The beach is nestled in a unique cove, surrounded by smooth white granite cliffs and dense tamarisk trees that provide shade. Its sandy shore, only 15 meters long, and shallow waters create a natural pool-like environment, making it suitable for young children and families.
The beach is particularly known for its beautiful granite cliffs mixed with orthoclase crystals that sink into the crystal-clear sea, offering a delightful view for sunbathers. Alternatively, visitors may also enjoy snorkeling in the clear waters. During the low season, the beach offers a tranquil, private experience, while in spring, the shoreline is adorned with the spectacular blooming of pink and yellow Ficus ottentotti, also known as Witch's Fingers.
Spiaggia del Cotoncello is accessible by a somewhat hidden road that starts from Sant'Andrea. The beach is approximately 400 meters from the road, and visitors can follow the well-signposted deviation indicated by a sign that leads to a pedestrian path. This path, partly carved into the granite cliffs by skilled stonemasons and partly equipped with wooden walkways, offers a scenic journey to the beach.
It is important to note that the beach does not have any facilities or amenities, and visitors are advised to bring their own necessities. For amenities, visitors can go to the nearby Sant'Andrea beach, which is connected to Spiaggia del Cotoncello by the pedestrian path.
Parking near Spiaggia del Cotoncello is limited, with space for only about ten cars, so visitors are advised to park in Sant'Andrea and use the pedestrian passage on the rocks. To fully enjoy the serenity of the place, it is recommended to arrive early, preferably before 09:30 am.
