Spiaggia Del Porticciolo is a secluded beach situated approximately 3 km from the town of Rio Marina in the Comune of Rio Marina on the island of Elba. The beach is relatively small and set within a tranquil environment, providing an ideal location for those seeking a quiet retreat.
The natural characteristics of Spiaggia Del Porticciolo include a shoreline made up of sand and gravel, with rocky formations on either side. The beach is also surrounded by a forest of holm oaks and broom trees, adding to its enchanting atmosphere. The overall environment of the beach is relatively wild, with a unique mixture of gravel, sand, and algae. The beach is particularly captivating in the early hours of the morning, when visitors can admire the rising sun behind the distant islands of Palmaiola and Cerboli. However, in the afternoon, the beach becomes shaded due to its exposure.
Despite being in the high season, Spiaggia Del Porticciolo is not typically crowded. This is likely due to the somewhat complicated path required to reach the beach. To access Spiaggia Del Porticciolo, visitors must take the panoramic road of the port, accessible from the town of Rio Marina. After travelling approximately 2.5 km on a partly asphalted and partly dirt road, visitors will reach a trailhead near some parking spaces. From here, a steep path marked by a chain descends through the forest for about 400m until reaching the beach.
It is important to note that the beach is not ideal for those with reduced mobility due to the steep path required to access it. Also, the beach does not offer any services or amenities, but it is an excellent location for snorkeling. Visitors are advised to prepare accordingly and bring any necessary amenities with them.
