Spiaggia della Biodola is a picturesque beach situated in the town of Portoferraio on the island of Elba. Renowned as one of the most attractive and well-liked sandy beaches on the island, it is easily accessible via the road linking Portoferraio and Procchio. The beach is known for its golden sand that gently slopes into the clear, blue water, making it an ideal spot for children.
The beach is divided from the neighboring Scaglieri beach by rocks, which can be traversed via a natural rock pathway. Two small coves, Lamaia and Porticciolo, can also be reached through a small path amid the Mediterranean scrub on the left side of the Biodola beach.
Visitors to Spiaggia della Biodola can enjoy a variety of amenities and services. These include the rental of umbrellas and sunbeds, as well as numerous water activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, pedal boat rides, and inflatable water games. The beach also features establishments offering food and beverages, providing a place for visitors to relax and enjoy a meal or a drink.
During high season, parking near the beach can be challenging due to its popularity. It is recommended that visitors park along the access road, even if it means walking a considerable distance to the shore. Alternatively, visitors can choose to arrive at the beach, unload their beach gear and passengers and then search for parking. Another option is to use a motorcycle or scooter, or take a bus from the Atl station at the Port of Portoferraio.
Despite its popularity, Spiaggia della Biodola maintains a tranquil atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to relax and unwind. However, during the peak summer months, the beach can get quite crowded, particularly in August. To avoid the crowds, visitors are advised to plan their visit accordingly.
In addition to the beach itself, visitors can explore the "Sentiero della salute," a scenic path that takes about an hour to walk from Biodola beach to Procchio beach. The path is mostly shaded by trees and offers beautiful views, making it a worthwhile addition to a day at the beach.
